My Food Bucket List

Lately, I’ve been pondering about the foods I want to explore. Maintaining a food bucket list is a splendid idea because it allows one to dream, set culinary aspirations, and plot their food adventures. After all, how can anyone achieve anything without first dreaming of the possibilities? As a food enthusiast, I perpetually seek novel ways to experience it and so I am sharing my food bucket list.

I feel it’s important to admit that I’m not a perfect food explorer. Occasionally, I encounter certain dishes that, upon sight or aroma, prompt me to say, “I can never eat that.” An example would be anything containing cheese, because I do not like it at all. Nevertheless, I do consider myself reasonably adventurous when it comes to trying out various cuisines.

I’d like to share my current top five must-try foods from diverse corners of the globe:

  1. Ekpang Nkukwo in Calabar, Nigeria: What captivates me about this Southern Nigerian dish is the meticulous preparation process. The layering of ingredients, including yam wrapped in leaves, periwinkle, seafood, fresh palm oil, and spices, is a work of art. I’ve watched countless videos of people preparing Ekpang Nkukwo, and I’m eager to experience its flavours firsthand.
  2. Starch and Banga Soup in Delta, Nigeria: The use of palm nut or palm oil in this dish is particularly intriguing to me. I have a huge love for palm oil and anything made with it. The attractive aroma of fresh palm oil, especially when it’s fresh, is irresistible. I’ve tasted Banga soup before, but I’ve never paired it with starch. I’m curious about the taste of starch and how it complements the flavour of Banga soup.
  3. Middle Eastern Cuisine: The rich culinary heritage of the Middle East is a constant source of fascination. Their diverse array of spices, the communal aspect of meals, and their emphasis on freshness all intrigue me. I’m eager to explore the aromatic and flavorful dishes from in this region.
  4. Croissants in Paris, France: Although I’ve had croissants before, the prospect of enjoying them in Paris renowned for this flaky pastry is enticing. Additionally, Paris boasts a delightful array of sweets and baked goods that I’m eager to savour.
  5. Gelato in Rome, Italy: Given my sweet tooth, the thought of indulging in gelato in its birthplace, Rome, is a tantalising prospect. I’m eager to experience the authentic sweetness and “velvety” texture of this Italian treat.

While these are my top culinary desires, there are undoubtedly many more food destinations and dishes I aspire to explore. Who knows, I might return one day to share my adventures with these delectable foods.

Do you maintain a food bucket list as well? What are some dishes you dream of trying from various parts of the world?  Let me know.

Love,

Ayobambo
