Pepper Soup Yam Porridge

I am always happy to post new recipes and try out new things just for YOU! I have been having some issues with my photographing but I hope to get a new camera soon and expect better pictures 😉 This Pepper soup yam porridge is everything you need for the cold weather!

Back in secondary school, yam porridge was our lunch on Saturdays and for me and many other students, it was plain, soggy and a not-so-interesting food. As a result, I thought it would never be part of my favourite food options. But I decided to try out something different by adding pepper soup spice. How did I not think about this all this while?? Issa must eat in this rainy season especially on cozy days. You just eat it with hot tea and trust me, your sleep will be very sound. Haha…

Yam has various nutrients including vitamin B, C and of course it is a source of carbohydrates. It can be easily bought in the market and is important that you buy a good tuber of yam because old yam/very strong yam may not yield a perfect outcome. I also usually add a lot of pepper because most days in this period are windy/cold so the heat from the pepper makes me sweat and drives away the cold. Without further talk talk, let’s go straight to action!

Ingredients

  • Half a Tuber of Yam
  • 5 Scotch bonnet Pepper (Ata Rodo)
  • One medium sized Onion
  • 1 tablespoon of pepper soup spice
  • Shredded Scent leaf (As much as desired)
  • 1 cube of Seasoning
  • A pinch of Salt
  • Dry fish
  • Two pieces of Ponmo
  • Palm oil

Process

Goal 1: Slice the tuber of yam into small pieces and wash. Put on fire to boil.

Goal 2: While it is cooking, blend the pepper and onions.
N.B: Be careful to add enough onions because it brings a good flavour to the pepper mixture.

Goal 3: Cut the Ponmo into smaller pieces. Soak the dry fish in water so it gets soft. I always prefer to use smoked catfish. It brings a great taste to vegetables and Porridge.

Goal 4: As the yam begins to approach softness, add the Pepper soup Spice and salt. Next the pepper, fish and ponmo.

Goal 5: Wash the scent leaf and add it.

Goal 6: Add the oil and cover the pot. Lower the heat and let it steam together.

By now your neighbours will be wondering who is cooking.. haha

How do you make your Yam porridge and warm up during the cold weather?
